Problem Statement:

In healthcare, HL7 v2.x is the primary standard for interface integration. Implementing HL7 requires an interface engine, and Mirth is one of the most widely used open-source solutions for this purpose. However, users who are new to Mirth often face a significant challenge: they lack a reference interface to guide them in creating new interfaces. The first step in any healthcare integration project is typically setting up an ADT (Admission, Discharge, Transfer) interface, which includes patient demographics and is essential for starting new interface projects.

Solution

To address this challenge, we provide a solution for those who want to install and understand the ADT interface in Mirth. We have developed sample inbound and outbound ADT interfaces, which are publicly available. This guide explains how to install Mirth for the first time, outlines the prerequisites, and provides you with ready-to-use ADT interfaces (both inbound and outbound) that you can deploy after installation. These interfaces are designed to connect seamlessly with any ADT system, whether for internal hospital use or external integration.

If you are new to Mirth and unsure how to create an interface, this guide will walk you through the entire process: from installing Mirth and its prerequisites to deploying sample ADT interfaces. Whether you need an inbound interface for receiving patient data or an outbound interface for sending it, we’ve got you covered.

Getting Started with TS Mirth ADT Interface Generator

Prerequisites

To successfully install and utilize the TS Mirth ADT Interface Generator, a development machine must meet the following software requirements:

Setting up and installing Mirth Connect

The Mirth Connect installer guides the user through the setup. Users must first accept the Mozilla Public License 1.1 (MPL 1.1). The process continues with selecting a destination directory, choosing components (Mirth Connect Server, Mirth Connect Server Manager, and Mirth Connect CLI), and configuring shortcuts.

The following are the steps for installing Mirth Connect:

Download Mirth Connect

  • First of all, we need to download Mirth and install it on our development machine.
  • Mirth Connect setup can be easily acquired from the download section of their official website.
  • Download: Here’s the link to download Mirth Connect.
  • Choose the appropriate version according to your system specifications.

Installation and Configuration of Mirth Connect

The following steps outline the installation and configuration of Mirth Connect. After downloading Mirth Connect and executing the setup, the installer will show the Mirth Connection setup welcome screen.

1: Press the “Next” button on the welcome screen, and the setup will show the license agreement screen
